Tasks:

The department is responsible for the requirements, design, implementation, and test of embedded real-time software for flying platforms. In addition to this, the department is driving new technologies for the integration into the products.

For time synchronization on different levels of a network hierarchy, e.g. between aircraft, within an aircraft, and within onboard computers specific protocols are necessary to meet the timing requirements in the avionics domain. There are standards (IEEE1588) and services (e.g. GPS), which are well established but seem to lack required properties, e.g. concerning fault tolerance. Therefore, modifications and/or new protocols have been developed, which need to be evaluated. The development of a dedicated simulation framework using a regular programming language will clearly provide the most flexibility. Besides the effort for the implementation of the protocols and their test beds, the correctness of the simulation results must be validated. Further effort is needed for an ergonomic (graphical) representation of the results.

Qualifications:

You offer:

Enrolled student (d/f/m) within computer science, electrical engineering or similar field of study
expertise in low level software development (including requirements, architecture, design, and testing in a low level programming language such as C)
English: fluent
You are a good team player, have excellent communication skills, and are able to work independently.
